Cook Together with Riverford

I comment quite often about how our days as a family revolve around food. It is not just about what we eat, it is more about the company. Sitting down, eating lovely healthy food, talking and being together. It is one of the things that I insist on us doing. We eat together at the dining table every night and now the kids are off school we have also been eating lots of lovely lunches and breakfasts together too. I think it is so important that with our busy lives we try our very best to sit together and catch up. I also like to try and get the kids involved in cooking too - Alice really does love helping me with all sorts. Rosie likes to help if it is a dessert and Emily does get involved on occasion.

I was really excited to hear about Riverford's campaign to try and encourage families to cook together and to pass down recipes to the next generation. I do consider myself a bit of a cook - I have a lot of recipes up my sleeve that I have perfected over the years, such as my Yorkshire Puddings and gravy. I will definitely be passing these on to my children! As part of their campaign, I was invited to try one of their recipe boxes. I chose the Quick Recipe box. As a busy parent I do like to cook quite quickly, so this was ideal as each recipe can be completed in 30 minutes.

I was really excited to accept delivery of this box.

The concept is really quite simple. The box contains everything you need to create a perfect meal. This box contained three meals for two people. Everything is weighed out and measured for you and included are recipe cards to follow. It really couldn't be any easier to create top-notch food from scratch.

We made pork steaks with orange sauce with new potatoes and tomatoes first of all. All of the ingredients are organic and of the best quality. We really could tell in the taste, texture and the way the food looks. I do buy some organic fruit and vegetables from the supermarket, but Riverford's food is of an absolutely excellent quality. Everything about it was perfect, I honestly have no complaints.

So we set to work with our ingredients!

The children enjoyed getting involved. I got them to remove the stalks from the tomatoes and they helped to rip up some of the herbs and stir the pans (when they had cooled!)

The finished product!

The recipe cards were very easy to follow and the food tasted amazing.

This was chicken thighs with pesto gnocchi, spinach and Parmesan cheese,
The box we received is £39.99. This feeds two people three meals, and delivery is free. Although this is more than I would normally spend on my food shopping there is no denying the quality here. We were genuinely impressed with every aspect of this service. We discussed buying the boxes and we thought that we definitely would. We thought that it would be lovely to have one of Riverford's boxes delivered to you while you were on holiday. I can just imagine a lovely delivery at a log cabin in the Lakes somewhere, good wine, good company and fantastic food to boot.

I have been looking around Riverford's website and they do vegetable and fruit boxes that you can pick and choose, so if you didn't want a recipe box then this might be something that you look in to. Organic products are that little bit more expensive than normal, but sometimes the extra expense id worth it for the quality and also for your health.
