As I am now in my thirties *boo* I have been thinking a lot more about financial planning. I still have my house in Manchester to sell before I can properly get involved with any real saving, but that doesn't stop me from looking. There are a number of ways that I do save money to plan for the future, and some ways in which I would definitely like to have a look at in the future.
I am really lucky in that my work pension scheme is an excellent one. I know that thinking about pensions can be boring and it can seem like forever away until retirement, but we all want to be financially secure in our old age. When we are younger we can work overtime, get a second job or whatever but I don’t want to have to do that later in life – I might even like to have the option of retiring early so I can enjoy the rest of my life work-free, or not, whichever – it’s good to have options. Starting up my own second pension might be an idea that I look at in the future. Nutmeg do a range of pensions to suit everyone, and their website makes things really easy to understand. This may be something that I have a look at in the future. It would be good to know that my finances were in enough order that I would have a bit extra to put away for when I decide that I no longer want to work.
I am a bit of a saver anyway. I like to have a rainy day fund and to make sure that we have put money aside for treats, holidays and Christmas. Long term savings is something that I haven’t yet considered. Obviously I do have an investment in the form of the house in Manchester, so I do put money into that. Once that house is sold, I might like to look at longer term savings in an investment ISA. Nutmeg have a range that I might like to look at. I would like to be able to control what I put into my savings and possible save on a regular basis over the long term – maybe for a holiday of a lifetime once my retirement plan kicks in!
There are a lot of options for financial planning. Pensions and savings are very important, and it’s not always something that is in the forefront of your mind. I am a “live for today” kind of person but I equally have a sense of wanting to be financially secure in my future. Nutmeg have a great range of products to suit everyone who would like to get involved in this type of planning. Do check them out if this is something that you are considering.
