If you made a list of home comforts you couldn’t live without, it would be simple right? Food, water, family? Before you answer, think of a typical day. Did you wake up and switch on the coffee machine? Grab lunch from the fridge? Log onto Facebook, Twitter, Instagram? As an ever increasing media savvy nation it’s actually appliances that “we cannot live without”.

To be able to fund our media savvy lives we owe great thanks to more affordable old fashion home comforts. There are cheap carpets online and sofas coming out of every home department on the high street, we don’t have to think twice about investing in modern creature comforts that enhance our lives.

From laptops to lattes let’s take a look at some modern home comforts and some interesting information that might surprise you:

Television - It’s no secret us Brits love our TV, each of us watch up to 4 hours every single day. New television technologies are competing daily for the ultimate supremacy, making TV not only an appliance we cannot live without but a consumer addiction. We constantly want bigger and better. We’ve been hooked right from a box with a flip dial a hundred year ago to today’s 4K Ultra HD TV. Besides without it, what would all our furniture point at?

High-Speed Internet Connection - The World Wide Web has revolutionised the way businesses work, people learn and society communicates since its birth in 1989. No surprise as to why we expect the best of the best when it comes to speed. 2013 saw the long awaited 4G (fourth-generation wireless technology) role out in the hope that the speed of surfing the web would be able keep up with our fast paced lives, to much disappointment. How is it that South East Asia can produce super-speed Wi-Fi in any restaurant or cafĂ©, public space and we (one of the most forward countries in the world) are still struggling with signal in parts of the country? Would high-speed internet be your “can’t live without” list?

Coffee Machine - Admit it, you’re addicted to coffee. You need it every morning to feel that kick. Don’t worry, you’re not alone. We as a nation drink 70 million cups of coffee every day to fix our habit and more than one in five households make their own choice of drug, flat white, mocha, espresso from their latest state-of-the-art coffee maker. According to the Telegraph, the sales of coffee makers on the market rose from £52 million in 2008 to £69 million in 2010.

Would you survive without your fix of caffeine? Maybe you could, but would you want to?

Smart Phones - The next time you get a text message, a Tweet, or a Pinterest notification on your pocket size friend consider what life would be like without it. 59% of UK consumers said they couldn’t imagine life without theirs, according to the IAB. Understandable considering it’s not only our first point of contact with every one of our social apps, but we can talk to wireless device and it will organise our daily life. Do you think we can’t put the phone down because we’ve realised that they’re actually smarter than us?

There are hundreds of modern home comforts that we could put on out “can’t live without” list. Music devices, washing machine, our cherished 4 wheeled transportation but one thing is for sure, life for all of us would be very different without them.

Now what would be on your list of things you couldn’t live without?
