How do you write an essay? TMA 02 A326

How do you write your essays?

This essay has been bugging me now. TMA 02 is particularly tricky because there is so much information to choose from, and the question is very broad. I don't ever fall foul of the OU rules that I know of, so I don't disclose the actual questions - but the question asks about the importance of religion in relation to Empire. But not just one specific empire - ANY.

So that is how broad it is.

The deadline is on Thursday - it is likely I will ask for an extension.

I usually look at the essay and use a 'smash and grab' approach. Please bear with me on this metaphor for a while. I basically read the information - I smash the book - then I grab whatever information I need to answer the question, and work from there.

This one is different.

I feel like I have smashed into Poundland and grabbed an electronic tea-bag holder, a furry lined musical ice scraper and a six-pack bag of Walnut Whips. Nothing coherent, barely makes sense. Don't know which order to put these items in, or really what to do with them.

So that's where I'm up to.

How are you doing? I am hoping that this one is just a temporary stumbling block for me. As always, I need time - I don't get enough time. I need quiet to read, but I can't read after say 9.00pm, as I'm up at 5.30am to get to work and the day is just so long and I can't concentrate.

Struggling here. I hope you are coping better than I am. I am loving the course. Just not this essay question. Or maybe I do love it, I just need time and peace and quiet to actually sit and think about it. Maybe the smash and grab approach is not the right way to do this one?

If you need me, I'll be in the corner eating Walnut Whips.

  1. Currently working on tma2 for a200 also due on thursday and is basically about Calvin and his genevan experience - I have asked for an extension I just don't know what I'm doing and nothing is making sense to me at all. I hope you have better luck with your assignment i'm sure you'll "smash" it xx

Thanks Megan. I remember Calvin well, hedge preaching erm...I remember some of it anyway! It is like fumbling in the dark sometimes. Best advice I can give is answer the question. Sounds obvious, but if you do that you won't go far wrong. Good luck to you too. If you're stuck with anything particular do ask your tutor or try me. It is hard though. Have you read the FB/OU forums? Sometimes they can confuse more than they help, I know.
I have a better idea of what I want to write about now - but need some time to do it. A quiet few hours before 9pm would be nice! x

  3. Writing an essay could be one most difficult work if your don't have any good ideas in using an important terms. Good thing you were able to put some helpful stuffs about creating good essay content here.
