So, I've been sorting out the kids bedroom today. Mammoth task. Nightmare. Can of worms, etc.
Anyway, as I was sorting out I just realised how many actual books we have. Like real-life paper books. These days a lot of reading material is online, people have tablets and Kindles and all that kind of thing. I still love paper books. I can't help myself, and so I buy paper books for my kids, all the time.
Reading is so important for children. Like Whitney Houston once said, I believe that the children are our future...teach them well and... oh you know what I'm getting at. Books fire their imaginations and help them with their own literacy skills, engaging them in human emotions and the world around them.
Me and Warren rarely get time to read for pleasure. I read my university books, and I love that, but it's been a while since I picked up a book and said "Oooh this looks good, I'll give that a go." - I tend to just read around my course subjects, and that's fine for me. Warren reads when he can, but works really hard so it's hard to find the time. School holidays are reading times for us!
Emily has lots of books in her room. I have stopped buying them and told her to read the ones she has got before we start getting any more. The house really does have too many books.
Alice has lots of books, and she loves looking at the pictures, feeling textured books and making comments about what has happened in the story - she is really getting there. We do read together - Alice would rather read a book than watch TV. Rosie, on the other hand, loves the telly, but is also starting to discover books, especially the bath-book we have - you know the sort, the inflated water-proof ones.
So anyway, this post will now mainly be photographs of all the shelves in our house filled with books. I never actually knew that we had so many until I started looking around.
Our Living Room
This is mine - obscured by the couch, but there are more books down there!
I know these are records, but they occupy my book-space!
This is our biggest book case - next to the dining table
Some of these are DVDs - we clearly need to organise!
These are over her bed - she's running out of shelf-space now
All sorts on their shelf!

Do you have a lot of books in your house, or is this silly? To be honest it's not something I've ever thought about before.
Should I just replace the lot with a Kindle??
